Don't think words could describe how much I love that band. Probably up there next to sonic youth as life changing bands for me.

If there isn't a thread about it, we should start one. A certain band from the '80s (not SY) absolutely "destroyed my life" (as John Fahey said about bluegrass music) and I am what I am today because of them... Well, not quite; it was more of a convergence, but you know what I mean. :)

oofty oofty.....doesn't make sense how they're still this good at putting sounds together so late in the game, nor how they can make such rigid sounds feel so organic/free-forming. stunning.

Meh. The sad thing is: There are some legitimately sublime melodic elements to this album that unfortunately never manage to rise above their overblown adult contemporary framework. This album is kitsch-laden, overly exuberant in its wailing romanticism and most of all, overproduced. Too much poppyfication of concepts that would've made for fine Folk songs if stripped down a good bit.

This is my palette-cleanser and my catharsis. Lovely.

Have you listened to the albums he made with Kath Bloom in the first half of the '80s? That's some of the most brutal music I can think of. Kath's voice doesn't suggest heartbreak, it is heartbreak; lyrically there's not exactly much in the way of metaphors, as for the most part things are directly laid out; and Connors' role is mainly to provide trebly acoustic stabs. Described like that it sounds like a recipe for awful overemo shit, I know, but it most certainly isn't - it's pure human feelings set to wax, and it can freakin' hurt. Not for everyday listening, yes for a beautiful/painful experience.

By the way, when I put the m4b audiobook file into foobar2000, it automatically split into its 40 constituent tracks, which needless to say was very practical - it must have a cue sheet in its metadata. Now, if you want it as one long file, in any format, that can be arranged as well... :)
