You have to admire how tenacious the guy was when it came to sticking to his guns. Unwound are definitely one of the great overlooked bands that don't deserve to be. I can't say I am an Unwound freak, but I've bought ''Leaves Turn Inside You'' years ago and over time I came to appreciate them and his work as an artist in general. Sad loss.

Do you do that Rate Your Music/Album of the Year stuff?

Kids turn music listening into a competitive sport these days, I swear.
I’ve gotta get off twitter. People claiming to have heard like 15,000 albums at age 15. Speed-listening and rating, I assume.

Something weird about it to me.
I’ve gotta get off twitter, man.

This sort of reminds me of post from atsonicpark 10+ years ago regarding the sheer volume of albums he was downloading and listening to......no doubt he knew his stuff!

Regarding twitter, where are you finding speed-listening/rating content?

Gotta agree. Not to sound like an old man but when I were a lad I had to save to buy an album. I'd buy it and that was it for a few more weeks and I'd damn well listen to that album more than once and not make a quick judgement. So many albums where it's grown from "eh" to being one of my favourite albums of all time.

The internet has ruined that. Me included.

It’s just something I’ve picked up on in my forays into “music twitter.”
Quite a weird little world. People with RYM accounts are the ones clocking ungodly numbers and speeding through albums so they can put them in a chart thing and advertise them.

Search twitter for “topster” or ”rym” sometime.

I just observe, don’t really participate, but it’s quite weird in my opinion.

I do, haha! And lest you think that I'm just pumping a rating out, I've written a review for everything there, too.

That #360 is just the autistic accountant in me making a list of everything I've done this year - partially for memory services; partially to just show off. But I like to talk about music, and if I've got my tastes on offer, it offers a good starting point.

Very interesting, choc-E-choc!

I’m curious, for the dates upcoming later this August, did you select those albums or did some algorithm do it for you?

That's not what I'm listening to, haha - those are albums that have recently been released, or will be released soon, by artists I've rated stuff from.

Sorry, I didn’t mean that as an insult against you. I’ve seen some people claim they’ve heard ungodly amounts of music, and it’s all about accessorizing music you’ve heard. Weird deal.

One of the most odd and unique sounds I’ve heard in 2020
Cosmic neo-soul from Chicago that switches from 70’s irritating to sheer brilliance

Their new single, "Legal Ghost"/"Heaven". The official blurb is better than anything I can come up with, so:

Quote:

Australia's Tropical Fuck Storm announce new 7 inch Legal Ghost. These two new tunes are TFS at their, existential best, and it's just what the doctor ordered. The songs were recorded at Dodgy Brothers Studio in Central Victoria, right before the world went indoors.

'Legal Ghost' originally appeared on Gareth and original Drones member Rui Pereira's pre-Drones experimental home four-track recordings LP Bong Odyssey, recorded in the 90's when Gareth and Rui were pot-smoking teenage morons.

20 years down the track, TFS have re-recorded the song for old time's sake. Says Gareth, "This is the first song I ever wrote that I thought was actually a decent song. Everything before it was kinda a big tantrum, but this song had a touch of class. When I was putting together the Bong Odyssey record a few years ago, I heard it again and thought this was something that could work really well with TFS, although the original was really cool, it still sounded more like a sketch of a song, and wasn't quite fully realised, so I took the song to TFS and we fleshed it out a bit."

In keeping with the A-Side's vibe, the B-side is a version of Talking Heads' immortal ode to mortality, "Heaven." Recorded on the same four-track machine that 'Legal Ghost' was originally recorded on over 20 years ago, the song features guest performers Don Don and H’y, on pedal steel and violin, respectively.
