"Extinction Aria" (Part I) is so beautiful as well. I might have heard this mesmerizing text a few months ago (at least in some form), in performances by Anne Waldman with a plethora of great musicians and poets in Mexico. I sure was floored and look back with fondness, love and amazement to those shows (and the whole experience of getting to meet these geniuses). They used a wonderful picture for the cover of this single, too:

I understand both of these tracks are previews of the album "SCIAMACHY", which was intended originally to be released by Montez Press Radio on April 27th, but now who knows because of the pandemic.

I'm resisting the urge to buy both of these Extinction Arias now, and plan on doing so on May 1st, when Bandcamp is once again waving its fees in favor of the artists.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from several artists during the last Bandcamp promotion, two orders haven't arrived yet, from FACS and Constellation Records. By no means I'm blaming these artists/labels. There's a statement on the Constellation Records site that reads:
"Please note that due to covid-19 measures, your LP/CD order will not ship until a) public health measures allow our warehouse employees to safely return to work (in Montréal, Canada); b) shipping will not put undue strain on essential services in your destination country/region; c) we feel confident you'll reliably receive your order in a timely fashion once we've sent it out."

Which is bullshit because Constellation Records is and has always been an essential service to me, who cares about medicines and shit, give me my Matana Roberts dammit

Seriously now, expect some delays in your bandcamp shipments which of course shouldn't hold you down from ordering

I was actually a bit surprised to receive a package from Beartown Records last week (Lasse Marhaug's "Gjota" and Sindre Bjerga "Impromptu"), taking this in consideration (this label operates from the UK, and I likely placed my order on the first week of March). I am currently waiting very patiently for packages from Taping Policies (Belgium), Shelter Press (France), God in the Music (New Zealand), The Observatory (Singapore), Thought Forms (UK), Vyctoria and Silencio epi (Mexico). Packages I ordered from the USA during the last month, I've been notified they have arrived to my parents' address over there, but I expect to put my hands on those records until Christmas when my mom visits the family here. Grateful at the moment that Bandcamp would give you .flac files more often than not.

My want-list for May 1st includes some stuff only available as a digital download. Like this recording from Martín Escalante, released by Rata Sorda Rec from Chile:
https://ratasordarec.bandcamp.com/al...mo-en-alta-mar

I like the cover so much, I will print it and make my own CD-R.

Anyway, here's a recommendation for you: Vyctoria, amazing Post-Rock band from Mexico City (some elements of doom and noise especially in the last record, though).

In the last couple of days I received e-mail notifications that items I ordered from labels from France and the UK are now in the mail en route to Mexico. I had even forgotten I purchased stuff from TQ N-aut and Etang Brulant!

Good to see things have relaxed a little bit at the postal services regarding international shipping (may that mean the pandemic is no longer raging over there). So, less frustration this time around about (not) getting your records to listen to, then. :)

Upcoming Bandcamp fundraisers

This Friday, June 5th (from midnight to midnight PDT), we’re once again waiving our revenue share for all sales on Bandcamp to support artists impacted by Covid-19. We’ve put together a list of artists and labels preparing special releases for Friday, including those donating their share to organizations in support of racial justice and change.

In addition, on Friday, June 19th, we’re donating 100% of our share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a racial justice organization with a long history of effectively enacting change through litigation, advocacy, and public education. Please read our statement here.

On the "special releases", I'm digging Thrill Jockey's, Chris Forsyth's, and Fire Records'... :)

Let's Play Domination still goes down in my books as one of the greatest UK noise-rock albums of the 80s (well worth ten quid of your money), and what they say about the band being "most sensational live band ever to perform in the history of the universe" isn't far wide of the mark.

Quote:

In light of the catastrophic events that are engulfing Beirut and Lebanon, we are donating 100% of all our digital sales on today’s #bandcampfriday to Impact Lebanon and the Lebanese Red Cross.

Oiseaux-Tempête went for the first time in Beirut in 2016. We met there so many beautiful people who quickly became our soulmates and joined our collective adventure. Each year since, we were coming back to perform and to visit, as you do for your family. What happens 2 days ago, this apocalyptic explosion which blew away and destroyed the main part of the city is unbelievable, so heartbreaking... So many of our friends have been injured and have lost everything — relatives, houses, and a big part of their well-known courage.... Could you imagine Paris, Amsterdam, New-York, London, Tokyo entirely devastated? This is not Middle-East regularly war-zone blabla... This is billion times worst than the fire that consumed Notre-Dame... We learned so much from the men and women leaving in this city and this country. Today we are crying but would like to help as we can. The funds will be sent to trusted NGOs that are active on the ground in Beirut, supporting volunteer work, food f or shelters, and primary covers for windows and doors of most the houses in the city. Please support and spread the word. ❤️

I can't recommend these guys highly enough! Well worth a try if you've never heard them, if you never have, I would suggest you try with From Somewhere Invisible or Tarab. Their latest TLAMESS is a soundtrack

This Friday, Support Artists Impacted By the Covid-19 Pandemic

We started Bandcamp Fridays back in March to support artists impacted by the pandemic, and in the past few months the music community has come together in a huge way: in just four days, fans put more than $20 million directly into the pockets of artists and labels.

That’s incredible, but just as amazing is that since the pandemic hit in March, fans have bought more than $75 million worth of music and merch directly from artists and labels, and to date, fans have paid artists over half a billion(!) dollars on Bandcamp.

It’s a good reminder that Bandcamp Fridays are really an extension of what Bandcamp is about every day. Thank you to all the artists and labels who shared their music with us, and the fans who spent their hard-earned coins to support the artists they love.

Because the pandemic is far from over, we’ll continue to hold Bandcamp Fridays on the first Friday of every month until the end of the year. A more detailed calendar is below.

Stay tuned for more details, and until then we’ll continue working to make Bandcamp the best place to support artists every single day. Thank you again, and we wish you all safety and good health.

Bandcamp Fridays 2020 Calendar:

September 4, 2020
October 2, 2020
