time used to be that i could not go to work unless i had heard sticks and stones in the morning.

No Neck Blues Band are okay. Nothing special. Maybe live it's a different story. And I didn't realize they had a fanatical following, though I guess I should have known since THurston Moore smelled their farts at some point or something.

The one on john fahey's record label is probably their best. (Sticks and Stones I believe)

im surprised thats how you feel, because theyve done me INCREDIBLE stuff.

atsonicpark 09.17.2008 09:18 AM

Sure, there are some amazing parts but there are many parts where it just doesn't go anywhere. Not really my thing.

Way of the Cross “Mind of the Dolphin” (Phoenix 02-LP)

In the Spring of 2007 a tour commenced from Latvia to Holland called "Way Of The Cross: On The Path Of The Ninefold Muse", titled from Robert Graves’ book The White Goddess. The tour spanned Polish clubs, Dutch radio, Berlin galleries, and the Latvian beach; “Mind of the Dolphin” documents the music spawned at these stops. WOTC members include Dave Nuss (NNCK), Stellar OM Source, The Skaters, Jan Anderzen (Kemialliset Ystavat), Kuupuu, Mik Quantius (Embryo), and Tiitus Petajaniemi and Jari Koho (Uton, Keijo). "The White Goddess is far more than a long-discredited pagan deity. She is still alive, and her worship takes many strange forms both inside and outside the conventions of Western morality. In particular, she continues as the Ninefold Muse, patroness of the white magic of poetry."

Interesting. I think it's quite perfect they should pick up on that particular book, because if NNCK's is a pagan music, it's one without a fetish for Arcadianism, Earth Mothers and naif-Mithraism. And it's a particularly dangerous book, just because it'd be very easy to use it to sharpen an axe against Chritianity, whereas a name like 'way of the cross' suggests there's something more subtle going on. I'm currently a bit fascinated with the idea of of the stations.

But these are probably pretty ridiculous thoughts, and I don't want to give them a context.

Whoo! Kemialliset Ystavat!

SYRFox 09.17.2008 02:38 PM

Yep, Kemialliset Ystävät rules - already talked about them elsewhere, can't remember.

Alkuhärkä rules, Kiimaniityn Kutsu is my favorite track on there.

Toilet & Bowels 09.18.2008 04:51 AM

kemialliset are nowhere near the same laegue as nnck, none of those finnish hippies are

Am I the only one that noticed this:

PCOMING NOV 1 RELEASE
-NNCK "CLOMEIM" new CD and 2xLP on Locust Music. New studio album.

Whoop! New nnck record. They've got one coming out on Re Bi Xibalba at some point as well.

pokkeherrie 09.18.2008 07:10 AM

That Way of the Cross record consists of the recording session they did for a radio show linked earlier in this thread. What I've been told by one of the members is that they're sort of bootlegging it, because the broadcaster is being difficult about releasing it (i.e. wants money).

hat and bread 10.31.2008 03:42 AM

Yes! Now all I need is that DVD that was supposed to come out a year ago.

Toilet & Bowels 10.31.2008 06:13 AM

it's about time they came back to the UK/europe too

Iain 10.31.2008 03:47 PM

Yep to the above two things. Awesome news about the new one being out. I don't know whether I should hold out until the lp is out...uhhh, I'll probably have to get the cd now....

batreleaser 10.31.2008 05:29 PM

I've never seen them live.

I'll probably eventually get both. The Embryonnck LP had a bunch of music that wasn't on the CD and vice versa. I have a feeling this will be the same.

No kidding I've seen this thread for years and never figured out it was about No Neck Blues Band! I saw them opening for Sun City Girls a few years back, and yes, it was awesome.
