So I picked up a can of Coke at the grocery store today. And at least in German speaking countries they're currently pandering to supposed millenial sensibilities by printing short and snappy phrases onto each can. The one I had randomly picked just said "girl". Now I've had the Suicide song by the same name stuck in my head for some time. My brain's in free association mode again. But it got me to listen to this masterpiece again.

I love Radiation by Suicide, because Disappears did such. a great cover of it. Especially live.

Playing tonight, my latest additions:
The Ex - 27 passports
The Ex - 33 1/3 Festival, live at Café Oto DVD

Maybe followed by the new Sebadoh, unless I switch to the football

Back in the late nineties she could have become big in the US, she was on the verge of signing a big contract. But then she got into a big argument with one of the bosses of Sony Music and the deal got cancelled. Apparently she pushed him from the stairs (she was drunk). And now actually her son is playing college basketball in the US ;)

I have that word association as well occasionally. Favourite example was at work during a project meeting. The project lead mentioned the word "wave" and instantly, for the rest of the meeting, and the entire duration of the project I had this song in my head, including the video: Sebadoh - Ride The Darker Wave

Let's do another word game :D

I'm moving towards a state of choc
Repeats again of what's already been said
The same mistakes keep hitting us like booby trap blanks
We still learn nothing, living in Tinseltown

Anouk reminds me of my sister. She used to play those compilations of semi-comercially successful Alternative acts back in the late 90s and early 2000s. I think "Nobody's Wife" was on one of them. Or maybe she just mentioned Anouk once. Anyway, those compilations were probably the easiest way to get exposed to music other than whatever was topping the charts at the time in the little town I grew up in. Anouk, K's Choice, Skunk Anansie ... I somehow associate the three of them with my sister and those compilations, though I have no idea if they all were listed on the CDs she had. Your memory does tend to play tricks on you sometimes and that was like 20 years ago after all. Anyway, fond memories, nostalgic even.

And cool to see I'm not the only one. It sometimes even happens automatically without me noticing at first. There might be a song stuck in my head for some time and I can't quite put my finger on why exactly. Then through some thorough mental backtracking I realize that someone used a specific phrase that reminded me of that song. It's quite sneaky. :D

wow.
Richard Garet - Areal

Absolutely stunning drones on this one. Areal was originally an A/V installation (complete with fog machine), the audio portion of which has been transformed into this magnificent album length piece on 23five. Garet's work has been focused on electromagnetic fuckery, specifically with messing up radio signals, and this is a further exploration. It’s an exceptionally precise record with a hundred different sounds working through cycles of hissing & clicking.

whatever you're thinking about what this sounds like, chances are at one point or another it does sound like that. And yeah, it's pretty excessive in a lot of ways, but Definitely deserved the reissue.

Antagon 06.28.2019 07:49 AM

Not big on their post-90s stuff, but I kind of have a soft-spot for their (or rather his, as it was mostly Dave himself at the time) debut.

Watching clips of a Dutch band De Geweldigheid (The Greatness) that never got big. Saw them live as a support act a couple of years ago, and they were super weird and very fun, and this morning I was revisiting the recording I made of it.They don't exist anymore but they made one album that will shortly be mine, they have some great songs like this one:

De Geweldigheid - Mooier

Life is much prettier than you thought, much prettier when you smile. You smile you smile you smile you smile, etc

why didn't this become a mega mega hit?

I’m listening to “Bandana,” the 4-years-in-the-making sequel to “Piñata” by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib.

It’s actually a really solid album.

“Piñata” has developed a *massive* cult following on social media, somehow. I suppose I’m glad, because that shit was one of the best rap albums of 2015.
