Not quite as bad as we all argue it as. The second half is better than the first, with 'Give up the Ghost' the best overall.

Grizzly Bear- Yellow House

I remember digging this album, but then completely forgot about this band/album. "Knife" is such a great song, too.

This one has the cover of “He Hit Me (It Felt Like a Kiss)” right?

Yeah, I forget about this one. More of a Veckatemist kinda guy and also not a devout Grizzly Bear fan, but this had some good shit on it.

dirty bunny 02.11.2019 09:04 PM

Hmm not according to YouTube. There's no cover on this at all, also according to Amazon.com. I don't have a physical copy (but I'd like one).

I did listen to Veckatimist but it didn't snag me like yellow house. I'd love to hear more of their stuff though.

I save this album for only the special occasion these days but when it came out it was a classic where I was. Many lonely nights spent drifting along with it and trying to picture the Yellow House and pretending I was in it. You can hear the curtains and the windows and the wooden floor in every song. I forgot about it for awhile then listened to it in a van driving through roads lined with Red Woods and each tree was the house.

Later it became one of those rare albums that friends would just sit and listen to in silence, nothing more needed. I love this album and am blessed to have gotten into it at the perfect teen age.

Veckatimest was great but ignore the others imo.

Still working through Cobain's Top 50 list. I love this one

Well wherever that cover is it’s worth hearing.

Veckstamist is one of those , indie-rock’s-about-to-die but-but-first-there’s-this albums. Kinda hard to stay pumped about it years later, but it had some reeealy good songs, specifically “While You Wait for the Other.” Wow, that song. Put it on and it almost feels like interesting rock music isn’t a relic of the past.

Severian 02.12.2019 09:05 AM

Oh whoops the cover was from the “Friends” EP. I’m dumb.

Good tho

Whoah that’s weird. I was just listening to it too.

But probably not that weird because mentioning it probably got me in the mood, as it were.

Goddamn really fucking good song.

Possinltnone of the best rock-type songs of that period.

The Soup Nazi 02.13.2019 06:18 PM

Not a "what I'm listening to" post but a suggestion: you Spotify degenerates better get jiggy with the Wilco Recommends playlist. The Wilco and Wilco-related stuff (Nels Cline 4, Glenn Kotche compositions) is just a portion of the list and the rest does not only include Wilco-like stuff —whatever the fuck that is at this point and all the better for it, motherfuckers— but cats like Wadada Leo Smith, DRINKS (awesome), Zeena Parkins, that JPEGMAFIA thing you keep talking about, Ingrid Laubrock, Mary Halvorson (mmmmhh) and much more!

Janelle Monáe – Dirty Computer

Wow! I'm speechless. Best pop album I've heard since FKA Twigs' LP1.

CSNY The Complete 1974 Tour Anthology

total length: ~ 6 hours :)

Genteel Death 02.14.2019 09:31 AM

https://oddboxrecords.bandcamp.com/a...elps-half-hour

This came out to little fanfare in late 2016, via UK label(s) Horsey Music and Odd Box Records, but it still has a steady place in the rotation, even getting more as the summer began. The latest evolution of British DIY rock’n’roll via NZ-pop, lo-fi but not lacking in heart, it’s been the record I put on to get back up when I’m feeling out of sorts. If you didn’t know yet this is The Hand from Real Losers’ new outfit, but there’s nary an iota of that band’s sound to be found here. I read somewhere that they’re “Swell Maps meet The Clean” and I’ll roll with that, as it’s better than anything I’m going to come up with, and it scratches that itch for genuine UK eccentricity that I used to depend on Hygiene for (though there’s not much in common between the two aside from my arbitrary mental tic). - Terminal Boredom

Yes, it is. Love me some Cranes. Yeah, Lilies is an awesome track. I'm very partial to Pale Blue Sky too. Absolutely adore the bass on that track

Right now I'm listening to this. Only heard their collaboration with Anne Cessna up until now, which was just my cup of tea when it comes to weird Wave. I'm really digging this too so far.

This is an important thing for teenagers to have and enjoy.

It’s like ... “Catcher in the Rye.” I fear for the development of young people who don’t have have their time with Minor Threat.

I'm Sticking With You: An Introduction To Moe Tucker

by Moe Tucker

good stuff.
according to the liner notes it features Kim Gordon, but don't know how and where

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.16.2019 11:04 AM

Such a classic post-hardcore album.

It's Helmet meets Fugazi. What's not to love?

Smell the horse on this one
