I have to revisit this. It is indeed a good one.

Personally. I do not think it’s better than Ghettoville, but it’s certaubly good, and one of the year’s best electronic releases

There’s also Arca’s self-titled. Different kind of thing, but also one of the best recent electronic releases.

_tunic_ 10.26.2017 03:25 PM

I can't stop listening to my recording of Low's Do You Know How To Waltz? played on the organ at the Westerkerk in Amsterdam last week. (kerk means church indeed). It's so amazingly awesome! Here's a YT video (which is not mine), and here is a video of the same song in London two days before. But I prefer the sound of the organ in Amsterdam.

btw I'm still hesitant to share it because they've mentioned they might release it and it's for the most part all new songs ....

DAMMIT! I mean, if there's gonna be an official release, please bring it on, Low, but in the meantime: :(

Wanna talk about successful reunions? This is one of their best! Fuckin' heroic. Plus, the return of Kendra Smith! For one song, but still. (Spoiler alert: if you're thinking about something along the lines of "Too Little, Too Late", fuhgeddaboudit; she sounds like Marianne Faithfull these days. Spooky...).

evollove 10.27.2017 12:09 PM

Ice Cube's first three records. I think Christgau gets him right.

Dude, I totally missed this.
Thanks for mentioning it. I gave it a listen and it is indeed very good. It is not anywhere near the “Portishead - Third” standard of excellence for reunion/comeback/terminate extended hiatus albums, but it’s quite a fucking treat.

This is one of those times I’m glad that you exist. ;)

Killing Machine- Judas Priest

on a bit of a Priest kick lately. Loving Sin After Sin! Of course Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith and Painkiller are all great too.
And Sad Wings of Destiny is just something else.

Savage Clone 10.28.2017 06:39 PM

Sad Wings of Destiny is a total masterpiece for "Victim Of Changes" and "The Ripper" alone.
Killing Machine has a few real Clunkers, but a lot of great nes too. Much simpler songs, but "Running Wild" doesn't need to be complex to be awesome.

Severian 10.29.2017 06:45 PM

Wow, the new Fever Ray album is fucking good.

Fever Ray is ... well, you could Google it.

One half of the now-defunct band the Knife. Also a solo artist. Give this new shit a listen. Electro-experimental-art-Punk craziness. Sheer craziness. Dark as fuck. Listen. Google and listen.

No, TINY, dude, I asked what a "fever ray" is, not what Fever Ray the band or person or whatever the fuck is. And I asked because we are living in THE WORST ERA OF BAND NAMES EVER, HANDS DOWN, and I want some fucking meaning! "Portugal. The man". "Protomartyr". "Alvvays". All those fuckers who just take the vowels out of a word. I CAN'T STAND IT ANYMORE.

Well, Fatty, you could still google it.

I hate shitty band names too, but Jesus take a pill. Fever Ray isn’t that bad.

For degenerate U.S. standards, I'm pretty sure I'm perhaps kinda sorta rather tiny. I'm 1.74m — that's fuckin' short up there, ain't it?

Yeah. People are tall and fat here. That’s like 5 feet, 8 inches, right? Yeah. I’m small too. I’m 5’10” or 11” and somewhere around 140lbs. I feel like a child when I’m around people 15 years younger than I am.

But yeah, you’re short. Americans love their GMO corn and shit. They’re HUGE.

Anyway, fatty, google. ;)

"...spirit design... spirit design... spirit design... we-will-fall..." Heh. Excellent record. So anyway, three now ex-Disappears, including Case, are rockin' it as FACS; I'm assuming they named the new band after Factory Records' cataloguing system. They have three demos on Bandcamp and they're giving 'em away:

It’s “spirit desire” though... innit?

I used to think it was “Speed design,” which I thought sounded hella cool for no reason. Was kinda bummed when I learned what it really was, even though it certainly makes more sense.

Spirit design... hmmm...

Don't have time to check out the new songs, but I will definitely do so

He’d already done that/been doing that for a couple years at that point, but yeah. Hah.

50/50... love the drums, HATE the singing

why do musicians so rarely have the decency to shut the fuck up and just play their instruments?

I don’t know, but I often wish music had less vocals and fewer lyrics. One of the biggest problems with pop, I think, is an insistence on filling every second with words, many of which are bullshit. Most of my favorite artists know how to balance having a lyrical/vocal presence with letting the music stay the focus, and giving instrumentals room to breathe.

One thing prog-rock got right, that. And post-Punk. Even the best hip-hop, the most vocally cluttered genre, gives us breathing room. The worst is usually just words.

This is one of the reasons why I’m such a frequent listener of electronic music. Sometimes I just want to think and live with music playing. I don’t always want to sing along or whatever.

Yeah, overlooked album. I kinda stopped paying hardcore fan attention to Deerhoof around 2012, but the new one is goddamn sweet.

“The Magic” is from 2016 though. They have a new one out this year called “Mountain Moves,” which I find pretty goddamn groovy too. Has a feature from Laetita Sadier from Stereolab. Always makes a sweet feature, that one. Like on “Quick Canal” by Atlas Sound (one of my favorite songs of 2000-2010). Good shit.

All-time favorite Deerhoof song is still “The Galaxist.” Goddamn fuck me that’s a slice of heaven right there.

Fuck yeah reveille. That’s their best album. But “The Galaxist” is my favorite song. Easy.

Savage Clone 11.16.2017 10:03 PM

Helium music.
Great drummer, but I kind of hate that band.
