The Earl Of Slander 04.19.2009 06:17 PM

I went to one of my local record shops on Saturday in search of the 7"s, but to no avail. They only got 2 copies, so had a raffle, and I didn't win. To push my disappointment back, I bought:

I bought two copies of fermented reptile, one for $3 at the pawn, and one for $2 at a music store, i can't believe how many people are ditching their copies of this canadian hiphop classic.
i also got an oi polloi cd but it's live so i'll probably only listen to it once

STARVATION ARMY (amazing band name)-We have More Tape

This band is soooooooo great at what they do, which you can probably guess (since I'm writing about i) is noise played in the style of a garage punk band. They're frm Ohio, which is totally not surprising. Ohio, and Columbus especially, to me is onl rivaled by Michigan and Los Angeles for such a rich tradtion of noisy rock and roll. I wouldn't even put New York up with them because they have so many bands. But by volume Ohio is where its at. Look at this list; Pere Ubu, Rocket from the Tombs, the Beatoffs, Electric Fucking Eels, Vertical Slit, Death of Samantha, Vertical Slit, Times new Viking, Lambsbread, Tusco Terror, Leslie Keffer, I mean fuck so much of my favorite shit.

Now listening to Simply Saucer-Cybords Revsited. One of my favorite records of all time which seems to fall inbetween the pos-hawkwind Space-Noise Rock of Hawkwind, the boogie nonchalance of Hampton Grease Band, and a Killed by Death raw catchiness. I mean, there really isn't any Chrome-esque band that I don't like, as far as I'm concerned Chrome is as perfect a band as any and any band resembling them I automatially dig.

Got the kind of record catch today that comes only very rarely.

Globe Unity Orchestra and Guests - Pearls (FMP 0380) (VINYL!)

Was digging in a local charity shop and I found this for £1.50. They clearly had no idea what it was. Not a recording I've heard of before, but for £1.50 I obviously bought it as fast as I could. As far as I can see, this has never been issued on CD.

Studio recording, from during the 1977 "New Jazz Meeting" celebrating the Orchestra's anniversary, according to the back sleeve.

Just look at this fucking lineup!

Trumpets: Enrico Rava, Manfred Schoof and Kenny Wheeler

Reeds: Anthony Braxton, Peter Brotzmann, Rudiger Carl, Gerd Dudek, Evan Parkerand Michel Pilz

Trombones: Gunter Christmann, Albert Mangelsdorff and Paul Rutherford

Piano: Alexander Von Schlippenbach

Basses/Tuba*: Peter Kowald* and Buschi Niebergall

Percussions: Paul Lovens

Yes.

I was actually considering uploading this, but I'll need to buy a new digital-analogue cable before I can rip it. I’ve been meaning to for some time, it’s just getting around to it... The way my room is laid out means that I need a cable that’s like 20-25 feet long, so obviously it’s pricey as hell. I may post a review of it soon though, to tease you.

Managed to find 4 Wesley Willis albums at a local pawn shop, they only wanted $2 a piece so I picked 'em all up. I love Wesley's music.
